BIOGRAPHY
Pietermaritzburg based artist and academic, Wayne Reddiar, uses public space and dialogue as a point of enquiry for socially engaged art. With each project, his work draws from the context of place, together with its affects on social experiences. Critically mining through the silence of history, memory and power relations, these works develop in dialogue and exchange with both collaborators and participants, where they often take on the form of multimedia interventions, happenings and installations.
Born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Wayne Reddiar holds a post MA certificate from the Critical Habitats programme, at the Royal Institute of Art (Sweden, 2016); and a MA in Digital Arts from the Wits School of Arts (ZA, 2010). Over the past ten years he has consistently produced and exhibited work, collaborated with the public art collective, Vuka Ndlovu (which he co-founded in 2012), and has lectured at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (since 2010). Alongside his artistic practice, Reddiar has contributed to a number of public talks, lectures, workshops and publications.
